- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2012If you like first person shooting games and have a Wii this is a must have for Wii owners. I am a 37yr old gamer and have collected a lot of these types of games on my PS2 and really enjoy them. I have all the Socom games on PS2, and a some Tom Clancy ones, and some others that aren't really well known but were really good. I have really enjoyed most of them. I kinda of had my doubts about a first person shooter on the Wii, because it seems like a lot of the games on the Wii seem catered to a more casual family friendly gamer which is something I do like about the Wii. I do consider my Wii my more laid back system. This game from start to finish was very enjoyable, and I got really addicted to it. I have to admit I am more of a casual gamer and like being able to beat these types of games within a week or two. I get annoyed when I go through a stage get all the way to the end which took 40 minutes to get to that point, and then die at the very end of the stage, and then have to start all over again. I had this problem with a couple of the Socom games for PS2 that don't have any check points at all. This game has a good amount of check points which hardcore gamers might think are too many. In most cases the enemy A.I. can be very challenging in this game so a lot of times you are very thankful that you have these check points, because a lot of times you really don't want to go back and do all the stuff over again that you felt really good about accomplishing, no matter how fun and challenging it was to accomplish. That being said also hardcore gamers would find this maybe a bit too easy because this will allow you to beat the game in a matter of hours or days depending how much time you put into it. There is harder modes for this games for those hard core gamers as well. Even on the easiest mode the game on the later levels actually got pretty challenging, and I had to do areas over and over again to get it right. Even a friend of mine who loves these games, and of whom I think is more seasoned player then I am agreed with this statement. I think the graphic are really good for this game especially if you compare them to other Wii games or PS2 shooters. If you have a PS3 or X-box 360 then don't buy this game and then expect this to have really good graphics compared to those systems. This game is up to par or better then some of the best PS2 shooters. After beating the game you have the option of going back to certain stages and playing them over again, and to also get some stuff you might have missed like the computer data stuff. There is also an option to play an Arcade survival mode. The multi-player online game is where this game really really shines. The funny part is after I beat this game over 6 months ago on single player mode, I had never played it online until last week when I finally decided to give it a try. The online game has some smaller maps that reminded me of the first Socom games. But the nice part is if you don't like people like myself that just camp out and snipe this game is for you. Now that's not to say to those that like doing this can't do this for a bit. But if they stay in one place too long they are going to eventually have someone come up behind them and shoot them in the back, something which I think is a real plus for the online game. They have several different spawn spots that seemed to work really well. It didn't seem like anyone could camp them out and shoot you where you spawned another thing that made Socom 3 for PS2 suck online. Although rarely in MWR some times you might spawn right near someone and immediately start with a shoot out which could be bad especially for the free-for-all mode. Although spawning near someone sometimes might benefit you as well because someone could run right passed you right when you spawn and they wouldn't even know you are chasing them. But like I said spawning near someone happened very rarely like 2 out of 10 spawns. The online game ran very smoothly without glitches or drops, which is a real plus. Glitches are something I have seen from all the Socom games even after all the patches they made for them. Also this game is over three years old so I was quite surprised there was a fair amount of people that still played this game online, I never found a lack of people to play against. My favorite multi-player option was free-for-all, it seemed to be much easier then the team mode. Because on team based play it was harder to tell who was a friend and who was a foe even though your team mates had green arrows over there heads, but for some reason it didn't seem like the arrows always showed up on some of my team mates. It would have been nice if the enemy had red arrows over there heads but they didn't it just shows their name in red that's it. Sadly I ended up killing team mates a lot when they ran in front of me and this docked me experience points. XD Maybe it was because I played the free-for-all mode a lot more I was doing this. You can see why I loved the free-for-all because anyone I saw was a foe. The awesomeness of the multi-player game is each kill gives you experience that adds up at the end of the round which allows you to go up in ranks which also leads to unlocking different guns and perks that help you out even more. The RPG style, and being able to customize my setup with these perks really added to the enjoyment of the online game. I was so addicted to the online game I ended up playing it for 7 hours straight, it gave me a real adrenaline rush. If a game like this can keep me glued to it on and offline like that in my opinion that is a really really good game. I give everything about it 5 stars can't say anything bad about it, even the controls were really good. The game seemed put together really well. Just bought Modern Warfare 3 for Wii in the Black Friday sale. I am hoping MW3 is just as good or even better. If you are a Wii owner and have never tried shooting games and want to, or if you love these types of games and only have a Wii, for the price it goes for now it can't be beat. This is one game I think every Wii owner should add to their Wii library.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2010Yes, you've probably heard countless times that the COD games on the Wii does not compare or measure up to the XBOX 360 or PS3 versions. The graphics will never be as breathtaking, but I was actually pleasantly surprised with the graphics for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex. The graphics feel relatively realistic to other FPS wii games.
Background: Ever since playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, I have been a fan of the COD games on Wii. COD: World at War was a breakthrough for FPS Wii games: gameplay, graphics, online multiplayer, and intuitive controls with the Wii Zapper. Although a couple years late in relation to the other consoles, Modern Warfare Reflex continues to forward the continuous improvement of the FPS on the Wii.
Gameplay: Using the ease of gameplay that was found in COD: World at War, we're able to immerse ourselves in the missions, enjoy the game with the point, shoot, twisting physical motions that add a different dimension to Modern Warfare. I have played this game on the PC and XBOX, and it was very enjoyable. Now, I can still enjoy the game, but with physical motions.
Missions/Single-Player: As you may have played on the XBOX or PS3 consoles, the missions are very grueling, requires a lot of concentration and focus, and can be dizzying. The missions are very fun and challenging. I, myself however, often need to take a break from the missions because so much happens in a short amount of time, and focusing on the missions in the midst of chaos can cause a little bit of light-headedness. However, that could be just me. But, my main advice would be enjoy the fun, but take breaks every once in a while.
Multiplayer: Wow! Addictive, extremely fun, and a bit unhealthy. The leveling up, the perks, the challenges, they are all highly motivating and addictive for the COD player. Once you do well, you want to keep playing and improving your stats. Once you do bad, you want to redeem yourself and do well on the next match. It is a neverending cycle, and I'll leave it to you if it is a good or bad thing. On a lighter note, there are many, many different games on the multiplayer platform. There is the basic Team Deathmatch, and then you've got Domination (capture the flag), Sabotage(Plant bomb on target), Headquarters (Capture or destroy objective), and Free-For-All. I'll tell you, it is a extremely difficult to stop playing once you have found motivation to play.
Overall: it is a no brainer, this is a must have for every FPS and COD fan. It is relatively cheap right now, especially after less than a year.
P.S. Wii really needs to get it together and compete with the other consoles because XBOX's Kinect and PS3's Move will destroy Wii if they do not come out with their own version of the COD whenever XBOX and PS3 comes out with theirs; see COD: Black Ops.
